Reconcile

20-min Meditation & Journaling Practice

The pursuit of mastery in any direction is less about adhering to rigid formulas and more about developing an intuitive relationship with one’s craft. Learning the tools and skills required does not inherently answer the unanswerable question: How do we know what to do, when, and to what degree? Mastery is cultivated through incremental learning and adaptive resilience.

Nothing that truly lasts is born under the pressure of quick perfection. Instead, mastery requires layered knowledge, where foundational principles are practiced with rigor and consistency until they become second nature. Whether your craft is art, embodiment, relationships, waging a revolution, or any endeavor worthy of your life, the practice of discerning when to loosen the grip, let something lie, or leave it be; and when to shape, create, or act, demands trial and error, taking the next best step, and failing in ways that carry fewer consequences.

The audio and journaling prompt included is an excerpt from a mentorship program, where each session began with the same Four-Body Check-In meditation and journaling exercise; cuing the sense of when to let something be and when to move it in a desired direction.

The journaling prompts are ones I use monthly to track patterns, recognize progress, and broaden self-awareness. They help to see what I know, notice what I might be avoiding that is taking a toll, and gain clarity on right action and integrity.

The body, mind, emotion, and spirit check-in asks for open awareness - the difficult mastery of simply listening and feeling without judgment, diagnosis, or avoidance. At a certain point, in each of the four layers, you’ll hear me shift from open awareness to guiding your attention toward an intentional focus.

The Four-Body Check-In with Timed Holds:

  • Body – Arrive and settle, with nowhere else to be. Release any sense of rush, haste, or unnecessary/misdirected momentum.

  • Mind – Notice the quality of your thoughts and the incessant loops of the mind. Let go of the habitual pull toward productivity and the urge to move on to what’s next.

  • Heart – Meet your emotional state with open awareness, free of judgment. Suspend the habit of diagnosing or labeling feelings. There is nothing to change or fix.

  • Spirit – Merge with the part of you that is unified and whole. For a moment, release identification with temporary circumstances.

Journaling Practice:

A continuous stream-of-consciousness writing exercise: the pen doesn’t leave the paper.

  • Reconciliation – What needs alignment? What needs to be brought into harmony, aligned with integrity, or acted upon to free up mental capacity and energy?

  • Remembrance – What asks for integrity? What do you already know that is trying to get your attention?

  • Release – What desires freedom? What needs to be actively let go of?
